European Citizens Initiative for UBI
To all people interested in the question of UBI (Universal Basic Income) and interested in the questions of how to transform our society:
The group that organized the 1st and 2nd ECI (European Citizens Initiatives) for a UBI (Universal Basic Income) is now in the process of deciding whether or not to run a 3rd attempt in 2026.
We have contact persons in 22 countries and 12 of the countries are in favor of running a 3rd attempt in 2026.
Some countries are still sceptical some are against doing it now. In any case we could make use of additional volunteers to support the campaign and also contact persons in the left to increase the outreach of our campaign.
When we want to run it in 2026 we have to start preparing it now.
When it already failed to reach the 1 Million signatures threshold why try it a 3rd time and why do it now? We think the time is right because we expect that the rapid progress in AI and robotic that will become more visible in 2025 and even more in 2026 will trigger a public debate about UBI. So when the debate starts our ECI is already there. So chances are good that our 3rd attempt will be more successful. The important part is to get some momentum behind the idea of UBI – so the important part is the campaign itself.
Even if your organization/group does not support UBI we were happy if you knew individual activists who wanted to support our campaign.

Foundation of a group of organizers (7 citizens out of 7 Member States 06 of June, 2025)

Collect slogan and logo proposals. Preparation of a central campaigning budget.

Request for registration at the EU-Commission, where 7 members of the group of organisers must be nominated: 22 of August, 2025
Planned milestone 4:
UBI-European Initiative meeting in Vienna (19.09. – 20.09.2025), see Annex D (Planning dates for UBI-European Initiative Video conferences for 2026 will be set at the meeting in Vienna).
